Thanks
to everyone that attended our REDCAT

to share the stage with such great
artists. In case you missed the Stravinsky
Wind Octet premeire, we videotaped
it and we will post the video soon.

we return to the beautiful Hillside
Club in Berkeley to perform the
Stravinsky alongside pieces from
our upcoming third album. We head
back to Los Angeles on Sunday,
June 20th (Father's Day) for our
final performance of the season
at our resident rehearsal space,
Cornerstone Music Conservatory.

Ben Harbert has accepted a tenure-track
professorship position at Georgetown
University. He and his family will
be moving to Washington D.C. this summer.
While Los Angeles Electric 8 will live
on in his absence, we invite you to
what will be his final local show with
the group. Please come and congratulate
him on his new journey and bid him
farewell. His presence will be missed
dearly.
These past few months, we have
been preparing vigorously for our third

will be a "sneak preview" of
that material so be sure not to miss
it! We will perform music by Mantle

perform at Fishbon in Santa Barbara.
Reminiscent of the 19th century Parisian
salon, Fishbon believes in the power
of collaboration between artists, scientists,
engineers, writers, performers and
participants to create compelling aesthetic
experiences that would have been difficult
to achieve in isolated individual working
environments. Please come and support
this charitable organization.
We hope to see you there!
We are kicking
off the 2010 with a performance in Orange County

Here is a sample of Interlocking Textures:
Sunday, October 11, 2009 Interlocking
Textures
Hello, we have been working hard all summer for
our upcoming season and will be presenting
an exciting set of Interlocking Textures. What
exactly does that mean? Well....
The Los Angeles Electric 8, the world's only
electric guitar chamber octet, will perform
music by American composers deeply informed by traditional Javanese
music—Mantle Hood, Nathaniel Braddock and Randall Kohl. These pieces have
rich interlocking parts and graceful melodies. Two traditional Javanese pieces
arranged for the Los Angeles Electric 8 will round of the set. Music from the
American minimalist composer Wayne Siegel—who was no doubt inspired
by the interlocking rhythms of Indonesia—will complement
the traditional fare. The evening will take
you from the traditional to the impressionistic,
all ringing from a chorus of electric guitars
imitating traditional Indonesian instruments.
Playing traditional Indonesian music
on eight electric guitars is an extension of
the guitar's long residency in the
archipelago. Portuguese ships brought
the first instruments of the guitar family
to Indonesia in the 16th century. Ever
since, Indonesian musicians have adapted the
instrument to indigenous musical traditions,
somewhat resisting the colonial power of the
guitar as a bearer of Western pop music. In
sound, the electric guitar resembles the struck
metal of Indonesian gamelans, making it an
unlikely yet well-suited host to Indonesian
music.
We also would like to welcome back founding
member, JohnPaul Trotter... who comes back
from South America with stories of wonder and
adventure.
"These artistic possibilities
are increased exponentially when
one combines art forms, as the LAE8
and world arts and culture MFA candidate
Cari Ann Shim Sham are doing in the
form of Project Berd.."
Tom Farrell
is a Los Angeles based guitarist,
composer and performer. A Chicago
native, Tom recieved his M.M. from
Northwestern University in Classical
Guitar Performance where he studied
with the Waller and Maxwell Duo.
In January of 2000, he was awarded
first place in the Society of American
Musicians Classical Guitar Competition.
Tom lives in Culver City,CA and teaches
at The Cornerstone Music Conservatory
in West LA and at the New Village
Charter High School in downtown Los
Angeles.
"Count the Los Angeles
Electric 8 among the ranks of gifted
electrists aiming to restore our
faith in its wild side, but with
discipline and music stands in tow."
Ken
Rosser's performance resume ranges from
John Cage, Billy Higgins, Bennie Wallace
and Vinny Golia to the Elvis Schoenberg
Orchestra Surreal, with appearances at
the Monterey Jazz Festival, The Frankurt
Jazz Festival and the International Reggae
Festival in New Orleans. Ken is also
actively involved in the World Music
scene. He teaches private guitar at GIT
in Hollywood, CA.
General admission is $10 with dinner ($12 show only). Seating is limited and
we expect the concert to sell out so please purchase in advance or call SOhO
for reservations: (805) 962-7776.
A big thank you to all who made it to our
2008 performances. We were thrilled to play
another sold-out show for our season-closer
at the Electric Lodge. At present, we're
planning our 2009 season and working on our
next album, currently in the mixing stage—we'll
keep you posted. For now, we leave you with
this short documentary on the group from
the World Festival of Sacred Music Performance.
Created by Adam Mcfaddin Ballard, for the
World Festival of Sacred Music - Los Angeles
2008. LA Lens on Sacred Music.
Los
Angeles Electric 8, the world's only

their final show for the season.
This unique evening features a world
premiere of Phil Kline's "96 Tears," written
for eight sustaining electric guitars,
a modern emulation of 16th century
viol consorts. They will also perform
selections from the "Well Tempered
Clavier" by J.S. Bach, "Octet,
Op.11" by Dmitri Shostakovich,
a selection from "Quartet for
the End of Time" by Olivier Messiaen,

and Taeggio, Indonesian gamelan styled, "Balinesa
El Canto de los Changos" by Randall
Kohl, and the ethereal "Domino

Wedensday, November 12, 2008 Please join us for two
very exciting shows this weekend.
On Friday, we will perform at the
hip cabaret Café-Club Fais Do-Do
in the heart of Los Angeles' mid city
district. Fais Do-Do offers fine soulful
Cajun cuisine and an entrée
into a diverse music, theatre and dance
scene.
Honorary ninth member, drummer Daryl Anderson, will join the group for Frank
Oteri's microtonal rock suite. The elegantly ambient Agness Twin will open
for our two full sets.
On Saturday, we will perform at Fishbon
in Santa Barbara. Reminiscent of the
19th century Parisian salon, Fishbon
believes in the power of collaboration
between artists, scientists, engineers,
writers, performers and participants
to create compelling aesthetic experiences

Updates
Hey everyone, we udated our repertoire section
with samples of our new pieces
(and some old) from recent performances.....
In case you are curious to what they sound
like if you missed some shows. We also
updated our photos section,
which took forever. See you soon :)
We are pleased to announce that we'll
be sharing the stage with our friends Edmund
Welles, the bass clarinet quartet. Edmund
Welles is not to be missed. The innovative
Bay Area quartet plays what they call heavy
chamber music, mixing old-school metal
with chamber arrangements. We'll be playing
pieces from our new set that we premiered
to a sold-out crowd at the Armory Center
for the Arts. (Thanks everyone for such
a great turnout!) We will also be premiering
some new music you didn't hear at the Armory.
In addition, if you missed the Armory show,
we play two full sets alone at the acoustically
stunning Church of the Epiphany in Oak
Park the following Sunday. We'll premiere
a few new pieces there as well.

"an extremely exciting album,
not to mention enjoyable to listen to,
and gives one the feeling of being on
the ground floor of something fresh and
new."
Come to the Armory Center for the Arts,
where we will offer a distinctive interpretation
of sacred music for this year's World Festival
of Sacred Music. We will recast a number
of sacred and devotional works from their
original instrumentation—adaptations
of traditional Indonesian gamelan, chorales
by Bach, Messiaen, Villa-Lobos and more.
